THERE was plenty to savour for Droitwich Dolphins as 25 members completed five days of tough competition in this year’s County Championships held at Perdiswell and Wolverhampton.

During the course of the competition, the swimmers competed in 134 events, achieved 93 personal bests, reached 40 finals and won 19 medals.

The medal winners were: Patrick Florendo (two gold, one bronze), Rebecca Hadley (one gold and a Champinship silver), Martha Stead (one silver), Elize Smith (two silver and three bronze), Harry Grech (two silver and one bronze), George Grech (one silver and two bronze) and Bethan Stokes (two bronze).

Meanwhile, eight of the swimmers also achieved 22 Regional qualifying times.

They were: Smith, Harry Grech with four, Stead, James Clews, Alex Munro with three, Stokes, Florendo with two and George Grech.

Head coach Chris Hadley said: “All the swimmers competed exceptionally well with many racing properly for the first time and achieving huge personal bests.”

The swimmers have now got weeks of hard training in preparation for the Gloucester Open meet at the end of March, where it will be their last chance to achieve Regional times for this year.
