DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club kept their promotion hopes alive with a 57-run win against Himley.

The visitors posted 207 all out from their innings and bowled Himley out for just 150 at Stourbridge Road.

And the result means Droitwich sit fourth in the Worcestershire County League Division One table, 17 points behind Barnt Green who currently occupy the final promotion spot.

Spa won the toss and elected to bat as opener Martyn Davies (46) top scored for the visitors as he fell just four runs short of a half-century.

The runs continued to flow courtesy of useful knocks from Max Young (15), Harry Butler (21) while Akhtar Iqbal (32) and Sam Woolley (30 not out) helped Spa pass the 200-mark.

Jarryd Clouston (3-25) starred with the ball for Himley while Sam Storer (2-21), Daniel Ross (2-53), Matt Bowen (1-5) and Daniel Jeavons (1-29) all took wickets.

In reply, Spa made an excellent start with the ball as the visitors took a flurry of early wickets.

Young (2-15) accounted for both of Himley’s openers as Akil Kapasi (3) and Jeavons (8) fell for single figure scores.

And Sam Smith (2-42) took the wicket of home captain Matt Bowen (4) before Adam Passmore (22 not out) was forced to retire his innings.

Davies (2-38) then caught and bowled Oliver Baker (30) before trapping Sam Cookson (4) LBW to leave the home side on 58-5.

Droitwich then took three wickets without Himley adding to their total with the hosts on 86.

Xavier Thuriappah (2-12) bowled Tom Bourne (18) and removed Clouston (0) either side of Iqbal (2-25) trapping Diluka Weerasooriya (4) LBW as Himley went from 86-5 to 86-8.

Iqbal struck again to bowl Storer (1) before Smith had Ross (33) caught to bring an end to the Himley innings and secure a valuable victory for Spa.

Droitwich are next in action against Chaddesley Corbett on Saturday, September 7 with the game to begin at midday (12pm) at Fox Lane.
