DROITWICH Spa CC suffered a 63-run defeat against Brockhampton who moved top of the table in the process.

A century from Alex Hinkley helped Brockhampton reach 261-9 at the end of their 50 overs at St Peter’s Playing Fields.

And the home side could only manage 198 all out in reply as Jonathan Miles top scored with the bat for Spa as he fell 10 runs short of a half-century.

The result means Droitwich sit eighth in the Worcestershire County League Division One table.

Brockhampton won the toss and elected to bat only to lose opener Ian Bullock (0) for a duck to the bowling of Adam Keen (1-29).

Despite the best efforts of Max Young (6-85), a fine century from Hinkley (121) put the visitors in command.

Young eventually trapped Hinkley LBW as Brockhampton closed on 261-9 at the end of their innings.

Droitwich made a solid start in reply as opener Harry Butler (29) hit five boundaries.

And Miles (40) combined well with Lincoln Kellett (37) while Young (26) chipped in with a useful knock.

However, Sam Harn (6-57) accounted for most of Sapa’s top order and then cleaned up the tail to secure a comfortable victory for the visitors.

Droitwich are next in action against Hagley on Saturday, July 5 with the game to start at 12.30pm at St Peter’s Playing Fields.
