JONATHAN Miles scored a half-century and took three wickets as Droitwich Spa CC claimed a 13-run win against Barnards Green.

Miles lasted 98 balls at the crease as Droitwich posted 171 all out at St Peter’s Playing Fields.

And Spa bowled the visitors out for 158 as Miles took the final three wickets.

The result means Droitwich sit second in the Worcestershire County League Division One table.

Barnards Green won the toss and elected to field as Droitwich’s top order took the hosts past the 100-run mark.

Openers Harry Butler (24) and Sam Woolley (35) put on 76 runs for the first wicket.

And Miles (53) then hit a half-century only for Droitwich to lose their final eight wickets for the addition of just 66 runs.

None of Spa’s remaining eight batters managed to reach double figures with Droitwich bowled out for 171 in 43.4 overs.

Max Bentley (4-50) starred with the ball while Elliot Hennessy (2-23), Jack Mackintosh (2-31) and Adam Witt (2-34) all took a couple of wickets each.

However, Droitwich made the perfect start with the ball as Max Young (2-50) trapped Elliot Hennessy (0) LBW with the first ball of the Barnards Green reply.

And Sam Smith (4-34) then ripped through the away side’s top and middle order.

Barnards Green slumped from 31-1 to 48-6 with only Rufus Lapsley (21) making double figures of the away side’s first five batters.

However, the visitors had their lower order to thank for keeping them in the contest.

Battling knocks from Joshua Everett (35), Bentley (34 not out) and James Styles (23) took Barnards Green past the 150-run mark.

However, Miles (3-10) bowled a superb spell to ensure Spa went home with the points.

Droitwich are next in action against Bewdley on Saturday, June 7 with the game to begin at 12.30pm at Lower Park.
