CYCLING - Droitwich CC riders produce strong performance in Virtual Cycling Club event

Droitwich Editorial 20th May, 2022   0

DROITWICH Cycling Club riders produced another strong performance in a big Open Time Trial (TT) last weekend.

Droitwich racers Luke Allen and Rikky Hughes took part in the Virtual Cycling Club 25-mile event in Usk.

And Allen finished an impressive eighth out of 38 competitors in a time of 53 minutes 57 seconds in what was his first 25-mile race racing at almost 28 miles per hour.

Teammate Hughes finished a respectable 16th in 56 mins 18 secs despite suffering from calf cramp during the ride.

Away from TT racing, Marcus Bufton took part in a criterium – a 45-minute circuit race – at Sundorne near Shrewsbury.

Bufton made a brave attempt to break away from the chasing pack but was eventually caught and finished 10th.

All three riders are in action again on Tuesday, May 24 at another criterium race on the Stourport circuit.

And Allen and Hughes have another event on the Usk 25-mile course this weekend as they look to build on last weekend’s performance.

The club held its regular Tuesday evening TT on the Ryeland’s Lane 10-mile course in wet and windy conditions.

Matt Overs took the win in 22 mins 59 secs with Hughes second in 23 mins 05 secs and Paul Mansfield third in 24 mins 12 secs.

Steven Cavey was the fastest rider on a standard road bike in 25 mins 34 secs and Jess Posnett was the quickest female rider finishing in 27 mins 14 secs.

The club would like to say a special thanks to the volunteers who made it a safe and smoothly run event despite the weather.
