CYCLING - Droitwich Cycling Club attract big names to time trial

Droitwich Editorial 15th Jul, 2022   0

DROITWICH Cycling Club’s (DCC) fortnightly time trial attracted a phenomenal turnout of 18 riders including some of the biggest local names in the sport.

The field included Jessica Rhodes-Jones, UCI Gran Fondo World Champion in 2017 and 2021, Xavier Disley, Director of AeroCoach, a Droitwich-based world leading firm in cycling performance and Jacob Tipper of the Ribble-Weldtite UK pro team.

And Disley (AeroCoach) took the win in 22 minutes 44 seconds with Dave Meacham (Stourbridge CC) second in 23 mins 6 secs and Luke Allen (DCC) third in 23 mins 8 secs over the 10-mile course.

Meanwhile, Tipper (Ribble-Weldtite) was the fastest road bike rider finishing in 23 mins 18 secs whilst Rhodes-Jones (AeroCoach) was the fastest woman in 23 mins 49 secs.

Elsewhere, three Droitwich CC riders took part in the third round of the Worcestershire Road Race series on 30 miles of the Welland circuit.

DCC rider Allen made a superb solo attack at the quarter distance stage to establish a clear gap and was joined by fellow team member Stephen Cavey along with three other riders.

The race turned into a highly tactical affair with the breakaway group working well together to escape from the chasing bunch.

Back in the peloton, teams not represented in the breakaway group worked hard to close the gap but received no help from the club’s with men further up the road, including DCC.

In the five-man sprint, Cavey took third and Allen finished fourth, whilst Marcus Bufton, the other DCC rider, finished safely in the bunch.
