DROITWICH Cycling Club kicked off the 2026 season in style as the club’s riders competed in both off-road and road racing events.

A team of eight Droitwich CC riders took on the ‘Battle on the Beach’ race – the United Kingdom’s largest off-road cycling event.

The event attracted almost 800 entrants and took place at Pembrey Country Park in South Wales.

The demanding course combines long stretches of sand with gravel sections and technical singletrack.

Droitwich’s Rikky Hughes secured a favourable start position and held his own among pro riders to finish 34th in his category.

And Viv Elliott also produced a notable ride as she competed following a recent illness after only taking up racing in the veterans’ category last year.

Droitwich riders also competed on the road as Joe Tyler followed up a solid ride at the Inkberrow Road Race by picking up points at the Rainbows charity criterium in Leicester and rode alongside teammate Marcus Bufton.
