Dickenson praises his Himbleton team for another solid performance

STUART Dickenson praised a solid team performance for Himbleton’s third victory in a row – and will demand more of the same to continue their winning sequence tomorrow (Saturday).

Himbleton swept aside Himley by nine wickets last weekend to remain second in the Worcestershire League Division Three as they prepare to face a clutch of matches against promotion contenders.

That sequence begins on Saturday when they entertain Martley, with Himbleton being able to recall the Pretty twins, Ali and Rich, after a family wedding ruled them out last weekend, as well as handing new recruit Rich Sugden his debut.

“It was a solid team performance based around some quality bowling from young George Clifton and stalwart Paul Guy,” said Dickenson.

“It was pleasing to see the batting top order firing after a few low totals.

“We’re very much looking forward to entertaining Martley and pressing for a fourth win on the bounce.

“Martley will present a challenge so it’s great we can welcome back Ali and Rich Pretty to strengthen the batting. We’re also giving a debut to Rich Sugden who has impressed since joining the club.”

Himbleton’s depth in the bowling department was evident last weekend as Himley, put into bat, were restricted to 179 from their 50 overs. All seven bowlers used only went for four an over to ensure Himley were never able to get going.

Guy had excellent figures of 1-26 from his ten overs, with Clifton claiming 3-40 and the ever-reliable Rob Perrins finishing with 2-37.

Himley had an early boost in Himbleton’s reply when Jon Critchlow ran out his opening partner Luke Brace but Critchlow made up for his error with an unbeaten 84 to be the mainstay of the innings.

He shared a second-wicket stand of 129 with Sean Jenkins (57not out) as Himbleton reached their target in just the 35th over.

Himley match report

TITLE contenders Himbleton prepared for a pivotal period of the Worcestershire League Division Three season by chalking up a third win in a row.

A nine-wicket victory against Himley provided another confidence boost for Stu Dickenson’s side as they get ready for fixtures against the top teams coming up.

With a change in approach Himbleton decided to bowl first at the weekend and kept their visitors down to an easily gettable 179 from their 50 overs.

The villagers’ strength of options with the ball was in evidence again as all seven bowlers used went at under four an over with Ronnie Guy having the pick of the figures. His excellent stats of one wicket for 26 runs from his 10 overs ensured Himley were never able to get going.

George Clifton got wickets his regular efforts deserved as he finished with 3-40 and the ever-reliable Rob Perrins posted first class figures of 2-37 from his 10 overs.

Himley had early success when they bowled after a poor decision from Jon Critchlow ran out his opening partner Luke Brace for only six runs.

Critchlow made up for his error though as his 84 not out was the mainstay of the reply as his form continues. Sean Jenkins also contributed with 57 not out as Himbleton took little time in reaching their target in the 35th over.

Himbleton, who lie second and 39 points behind Kempsey, entertain Martley this weekend and will have a full strength side to select from after the return of the Pretty twins after a family wedding.
