Drew critical of Droitwich's slow start following 35-19 victory over Evesham

DROITWICH boss Adam Drew was pleased his players showed great composure to come from behind to maintain their 100 per cent record in Midlands Three West (South).

The league leaders travelled to fellow early pacesetters Evesham on Saturday but looked to be in trouble as they found themselves 12-0 down early doors.

However, Drew’s men showed great character to go into the break at 14-14 before eventually running out 35-19 winners to maintain their position at the top, four points clear of second placed unbeaten Old Leamingtonians.

Despite clawing their way back into the game, Drew criticised Droitwich for their slow start and has urged them if they wish to keep their unbeaten run going, they have to come out of the blocks flying in every game.

He said: “Evesham caught us on the break because we started slowly and that’s something we need to address in training.

“If you want to maintain an unbeaten record you have got to start well and play for the full 80 minutes, not 65 or 70 minutes.

“But the lads kept their composure to get the win and I was never worried that we was going to lose because I know this squad is more than capable of getting points against anybody.

“The lads never dropped their heads, worked out Evesham’s game plan and then used it against them to get us the points.”

Droitwich are away from league action this weekend as they entertain Clee Hill in the second round of the North Midlands RFU Senior Vase on Saturday.

They then welcome Ledbury to the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground the following Saturday (October 22) hoping to make it five wins out of five in the league.
