Droitwich and Bromsgrove pupils claim 100% grading success

STUDENTS from Bromsgrove and Droitwich achieved an amazing 100 per cent pass rate at their latest grading.

More than 70 children and adults from Defence Lab martial arts and fitness centres were put forward to the National Board of Examiners.

And they received amazing feedback as they successfully kicked and punched their way through their grading curriculum.

The youngest candidates, aged between four and seven as well as the ‘Street Smart’ seven- to 12-year-olds were tested on work from the DL Kids children’s martial arts programme and showed incredible confidence, friendship and teamwork throughout the course of their exams.

They displayed great levels of fitness and determination while having fun demonstrating the physical developments of the programme together in a group, with partners and on their own.

The children also showed their theoretical knowledge of self-defence situations and how to stay safe if confronted by bullies at school or out-and-about.

Teenage and adult participants were tested on their ability within the DNA Fight Science programme – a very practical and functional modern self-defence system made famous by Hollywood blockbuster movies such as Batman Begins and Jack Reacher.

Through high-energy multiple opponent attacks, situational awareness, scenario based training and sparring, the DNA students showed their determination and skills to impress the examiner once again, and earn their new grades.

Lead instructor James Boyle said: “The effort and energy that these guys put into their gradings is always inspirational.

“You get to see the students performing at their best with awesome attitude and camaraderie, and the skills on show are a testament to their passion and dedication.

“We are all really looking forward to our next grading day now. We have just added brand new Thai Boxing classes to our schedule with a vastly experienced Muay Thai instructor.

“It’s so exciting to see the students and the classes growing so well. And awesome gradings like this one just go to reinforce what a great place Defence Lab is to train.”

One particular student who impressed in the ‘Street Smart’ programme was 12-year-old Harry Jones who passed his black/red grade – the highest available grade in the DL Kids programme before moving up to the adult class.

James added: “Harry and his family have been training with us for many years now and he has always given his best in class.

“It’s fantastic to see how he has grown over the years, both in training and in life.”
