A DEVASTATING blow has been dealt to Droitwich who have been told their season has been made ‘null and void’ with them 13 points clear at the top with eight games remaining, writes Callum Perry.
The Saltmen said, while they were disappointed with the decision, it had made the club even more determined to hit the ground running when the new West Midlands Regional League Division One season started.
The club originally had plans to hold a celebration night in recognition of players, coaches, and volunteers following their performance in the FA Vase, but this has had to be postponed.
In a statement on the website the club said: “We should have been enjoying a celebration presentation night.
“However, due to the current crisis affecting all of our lives, it was not meant to be.
“Some things are more important than football.”
The club said the work was continuing and plans were already being made for next season but added there were still a lot of unanswered questions.
“There’s a great deal that we don’t know – we don’t know when the season will start, we don’t how many teams will be in our league, so we don’t know how many games we will have.”
In light of the current situation, the chairman has announced any current season ticket holders will be eligible to a significant discount on the tickets for the future season.
Bosses vowed to hold the celebration when it could and if it was appropriate to ‘acknowledge the brilliant efforts made by all involved at the club’.
The statement concluded with: “To one and all, stay safe, stay healthy and most importantly look after each other at this time.”
