MANAGER Wayne Oliver has blasted his players’ “abysmal” display at Chelmsley Town last Saturday as Droitwich Spa were thrashed 7-0.
The result, which included four goals from Chris Lloyd, follows struggling Spa’s 5-1 defeat to Coventry United and leaves them second from bottom in the Midland Football League Division Two.
Oliver, who was confident his side could get a win before the game, said “it was like watching a pantomime” in the first half as Chelmsley racked up five goals.
The hosts added two further goals after the break, but Oliver admitted they could have lost 14-0 if it wasn’t for Spa keeper Matthew Oliver who produced a series of fine saves.
“If this was against a top of the table side, I could maybe understand this result, but the performance was not acceptable for the level we are at.” he said.
“It is difficult for me to report any positives as it was an abysmal effort.
“We were 5-0 down at half time, so the game was gone and it was just like watching a pantomime. It was really poor and took us all by surprise.
“Mark (Owen) had a go at them at half time, saying it was not acceptable. We did a bit better in the second half, but when you have conceded five goals in the first half it is difficult to pick yourself up.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Chelmsley as they took their chances and battered us, but I am extremely disappointed as it was a game we earmarked for getting something from.”
