DROITWICH Spa Boxing Academy star Joe Doyle proved he can go the distance in more ways than one after reaching the semi-finals of the National Schools Championship.
The 13-year-old twice Midlands champion made the journey to Newcastle-on-Tyne where he defeated the northern area’s leading light Billy McGuire in the quarter-finals of the Elite 35.5kg category, a display which further enhances his growing reputation.
Doyle’s counter punching and fast feet was evident in the early exchanges against his Darlington opponent whose eagerness left him open to a barrage of rapid combinations leading to his downfall.
Doyle’s class shone throughout the contest as he secured a unanimous points decision from the judges for all three rounds.
Doyle’s father Jayson said: “I am absolutely delighted with his performances and I’m confident he can go on to win the championship.
“He’s a dedicated lad. He does five mile runs twice a week, trains everyday and spas three times a week.
“He just lives the lifestyle of a proper boxer. He eats well and trains well and I’m 100 per cent sure he can make it as a household name in the future.”
Doyle’s semi-final bout takes places in Liverpool on Sunday where he will be taking on the North-West champion Ahid Khan.
