DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club all-rounder Max Young has been hit for six ahead of the 2016 season after being named Cricketer of the Year by the Midlands Club Cricket Conference.

The 25-year-old was only one of six players chosen for the major award from eight counties for their performances last season.

The award comes five months after Young walked away with the Worcestershire Cricket League’s Player of the Year trophy.

Scoring 854 runs and taking 42 wickets, Young was instrumental in helping Spa on their way to a third place finish and spearheading a complete turnaround in the team’s fortunes after avoiding the drop on the final day of the previous campaign.

Young said: “The MCCC award came as a shock but I’m really pleased to have won.

“My captain Martyn Davies showed great faith by giving me the opportunity to open the batting and he supported me with the ball by taking a lot of wickets himself.”

“With the rest of the squad, I’m looking forward to the new season and hoping I can perform equally well.

“We’ve got a group of good young players and I’m sure that we will push on.”
