BROTHERS Ian and Alan Gandy have qualified for the national final of the American Golf Family Championship after securing second place in the tightly fought regional qualifying event played Heythrop Park Golf Club.

The Droitwich Spa Golf Club members will now play in the final at the iconic Ryder Cup venue, the Belfry on September 7 and 8.

Alan and Ian played some impressive golf over the nine holes, dovetailing well to come home with a very strong total of 23 points.

The pair could not quite match the scoring of Worcester father-and-daughter Christopher and Kerry Hobbs who came to together for an exceptional score of 24 points to take the win.

Both pairs now join qualifiers from all over the UK and Ireland in front of the Sky Sports’ cameras for the national final.

They will compete across two days to be crowned American Golf Family Champions and take the title of best Family Pair in the UK.

This win also puts them in contention for the Tournament of Champions in Mauritius, should they succeed at the iconic Midland venue.

Local American Golf manager Lyle Hastie, from the Worcester store, said, “To have won through to the National finals of the American Golf Family Championships is a great achievement and I’m delighted that the local golfing community will be well represented.

“It will be an incredible experience playing on a Ryder Cup course and I can’t wait to see how our pair get on.”
