DROITWICH SPA ended their wretched run of form with a 2-0 victory over Powick Rangers to progress to semi finals of the Worcestershire Junior Cup.
Spa were desperately in need of a confidence boost after conceding 16 goals in three games. And they appear to have got it as they produced a workman like performance to beat Powick, with goals coming from Graeme Pardoe and Stephen Pitt.
Both of those came within the opening 20 minutes as Droitwich got off to a superb start against Rangers.
The game evened itself out for the remainder of the half before Powick upped the ante after the interval. The hosts began to dominate the match and but for some dogged defending Droitwich kept their goal in tact.
Spa also had Matt Oliver to thank as he produced a fine save to deny Powick from the spot. The keeper, who has been busy picking the ball out of his goal in recent weeks, refused to concede and he managed to get a clean-sheet with a series of impressive saves.
Speaking after the game, manager Wayne Oliver said he hoped his side could back this win up when they return to Midland Football League Division Two tomorrow (Saturday).
“We hope this fighting spirit will continue as after a month on the road Droitwich return to home league duty this week against Earlswood at King George Playing Fields,” he said.
“With players missing and injuries to another couple of players Droitwich will have to dig deep into there reserves to continue there quest for another win.”
