DROITWICH Spa Judo Kan student Megan Skillern claimed gold at the Western Area British Schools qualifier to book her place in the finals later this year.

The Droitwich Spa High School student travelled to Weston-super-Mare on Sunday for her first competition of the New Year to take part in the Year 8-9 over 57kgs category.

Skillern fought very hard on the day, especially being the youngest and lightest in her category, and used some strong techniques and well-executed hold downs to claim gold.

The 13-year-old will now travel to Sheffield on Saturday, April 8 to fight in the British Judo Association Schools’ Championship.

A spokesperson from Droitwich Spa High School said: “Everyone at the school wishes her the very best of luck for the National Championships in April.”
