Droitwich Lades E claim losing draw against Belbroughton

THE DROITWICH Ladies E team sit in fifth in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division Nine East table following their losing draw to Belbroughton.

Caroline Hawley and Julia Rollit produced two excellent performances to win 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively in both of their matches.

Despite the best efforts of Megan Ross and Hazel Briggs, they lost both of their respective matches in straight sets as Belbroughton claimed the winning draw.

The Ladies A team suffered a 3-1 defeat at local rivals David Lloyd Bromsgrove A in Division Two.

Lisa Pettener-Jones and Marelize Yorke produced a battling performance to win their first match 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Then Pettener-Jones unfortunately picked up an injury during the second match as Bromsgrove levelled the scores.

Penny Maidment and Caroline Brookes played some fine tennis but it wasn’t enough as they lost both of their matches 6-0, 3-6, 3-6 and 0-6, 5-7 respectively.

The Men’s C slumped to their first Division Six East defeat of the season at the hands of Bewdley D.

Bruce Turner and Ben Steel struggled against their steady opponents and lost 3-6, 2-6 and 6-7, 4-6 in their respective matches.

Kevin Hodges and Bob Smith did a lot better, winning their first match 6-3, 7-5 before losing a tight three-setter 3-6, 7-5, 6-7.

Despite the defeat, Droitwich remain second in the table.

Elsewhere, the Mixed E team were edge out by David Lloyd Worcester B in Division Seven East.

Phillip Shaw and Anne Everard won their first match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 before a 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 defeat in their second.

Mark Venables and Julie Rhodes were also involved in two very close matches, losing the first 5-7, 6-3, 6-7 before responding well to win the second 6-3, 1-6, 7-6.

With the scores level on matches and sets won, the result came down to games with Worcester winning 64 games to 61.
