THE BATTLE for the Division Three title in the women’s Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League is hotting up, following a 12-2 win for second-placed Droitwich Ladies B against Old Hill last week.
The result closes the gap to leaders Ross A to six points after four matches played, with Droitwich going into Monday’s fixture at Worcester B with plenty of confidence following their recent win.
Margaret Hughes and Caroline Brookes got Droitwich off to the perfect start when they beat the pairing of Laura Beale and Fiona Shaw in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
The contest was tied after Droitwich pair Julie Rhodes and Alexa Dean lost to Deborah and Mary German 6-7, 4-6, but a walkover in the third match put Droitwich 4-2 up overall.
Spa consolidated that lead when Karen Dobson and Clare Baker beat Beale and Shaw 6-3, 6-2, before Hughes and Brookes recorded a victory by the same scoreline against the German sisters in the fifth and final game.
