THE Droitwich Ladies B team produced a strong performance to beat Evesham A by the tightest of margins in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Winter League Division Four East.
Margaret Hughes and Heidi Harris battled to two 6-3 6-1 and 6-0 6-3 victories. Heather Fellows and Linda Price gave their all but lost both of their matches 3-6 3-6 and 4-6 6-3 2-6.
However, it was enough to secure the winning draw and put Droitwich B into fourth .
Droitwich Ladies G team were beaten 4-0 at home to a solid Worcester E team in Division 11 East.
Despite the best efforts of Kate Bates and Christine Brighton they lost both of their matches in straight sets. Fiona Fogg and Julia Brown came the closest to sealing a win with a close 3-6 6-4 1-6 defeat before a 1-6 2-6 loss in their second match.
The Droitwich Men’s B team battled to an impressive 3-1 victory away to Belbroughton A in Division Four East. . Ian Bowman and Joe Maidment were in superb form and picked up two 6-1 6-1 and 6-1 6-2 wins. Youngster James Stanford and Neil Bates lost their first match 5-7 4-6 before an excellent 6-1 6-2 success in their second.
Table-topping Droitwich Ladies F team lost on sets won to second-placed Far Forest in their Division 11 East encounter.
Mel Cook and Helen Whiteside got Droitwich off to a flying start with a 6-2 1-6 6-3 victory in their first match before a 6-4 1-6 3-6 defeat in their second. Bridget Gill and Shona Atherton lost their first match 1-6 2-6 but responded excellently with a 2-6 6-2 7-6 win in their second match but Far Forest took the points on sets won.
The Droitwich Ladies C team were similarly involved in a close encounter in their Division Seven East match but Evesham B got the winning draw on sets won.
Suzy Levay and Alexa Dean won their first match comprehensively 6-1 6-2 before a 0-6 3-6 loss in their second. Anne Everard and Gillian McDonald lost their first match in straight sets before a hard fought 2-6 6-4 7-6 victory.
The Droitwich Men’s G team lost all four matches away to Halesowen C at the weekend. Ricky Hollander and Roger Brown lost both of their matches 3-6 5-7 and 2-6 4-6 as Halesowen took the early control. Roger Satterthwaite and David Hughes tried their best but lost both of their matches in straight sets.
The Droitwich Men’s E team slipped to the foot of Division Eight East table after a 4-0 defeat to Worcester F.
Dan Ballard and Jonathan Carter lost 1-6 6-7 and 3-6 1-6 against solid opponents. Nigel Hughes and Scott Gregory tried their best in both of their matches but ultimately Worcester proved too strong.
