Droitwich Ladies C unable to break into top two after defeat at Bewdley C

DROITWICH Ladies C missed out on the opportunity to go second in Division Four East of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League after losing 4-2 at Bewdley C.

Aileen Baker and Marilyn Sherring lost 3-6, 6-1, 3-6 in their first game but bounced back to win their next 6-1, 6-4.

Diane Owen and Liza French gave their all but succumbed to a 6-2, 1-6, 6-7 defeat in their first clash followed by a 6-7, 4-6 loss in their second.

Ishbel Crosslet and Jackey Passey won their opener 7-6, 6-2 but lost the next game 6-1, 4-6, 1-6 which sealed the points for Bewdley.




The Ladies A team were thrashed 5-1 in a tough encounter against Worcester A in Division One.

Lisa Pettener-Jones and Marelize Yorke faced a dominant first pair and lost in straight sets before a valiant effort in their second where they were unlucky to lose 7-6, 5-7, 3-6.


Penny Maidment and Heidi Harris also gave a good account of themselves as they lost a match which could have gone either way 4-6, 6-2, 2-6 before a straight set defeat in their second.

Caroline Brookes and Clare Cussen lost their first match 1-6, 1-6 but responded well as they got Droitwich on the scoreboard with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in their second match.

The Men’s D team moved up to third in Division Eight East with a 4-2 home victory over David Lloyd Worcester D.

Dave Wicks and John Wright were involved in two three-set epics, losing the first 7-6, 6-7, 6-7 before winning the second 5-7, 6-1, 7-6.

Robin Jones and Tom Trow were also involved in a three-setter of their own which they won 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 before a 2-6, 3-6 loss in their second.

Ricky Hollander and James Stanford managed to pick up two important wins 7-5, 6-4 and 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 respectively as Droitwich walked away with the points.

The Men’s C boosted their Division Four East survival hopes with a winning draw over Bewdley C.

Neil Bates and Ben Steel lost their first match 6-7, 3-6 before coming back from a set and break down to win their second 6-7, 7-5, 7-6.

Despite giving their all, Carlos Segura and Mark Pearsall lost both of their matches in two and three sets respectively.

Peter Fawcus and team captain Dave Lamb were the stars of the show as they picked up two vital straight set victories to give Droitwich the winning draw by 74 games to 69.

Elsewhere, the Mixed E team also secured a winning draw at Inkberrow B.

Mark Woodget and Jackie Holliday battled hard but lost 4-6, 2-6 in their opening match before a 6-2, 6-4 victory in their second.

Sam Reavey and Julia Rollit won their first match 6-0 6-1 with a brutal display of tennis and despite a 1-6 4-6 loss in their second, they did enough to claim the winning draw.
