Droitwich Ladies D get the better of Ladies E in season curtain-raiser

THE DROITWICH Ladies E and D teams faced each other for their opening Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Seven East clash, with the D team prevailing 5-1 winners.

Caroline Hawley and Angela Creese of the D team won both of their matches 6-4, 7-5 against Shona Atherton and Helen Whiteside and 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 against Sue Brice and Joy Baker.

Jackie Holliday and Julie Rhodes also grabbed two well deserved wins for the D team – 6-1, 6-3 against Janine Billinge and Karen Latham before a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Atherton and Whiteside.

Bryce and Baker did manage to get a win for the E team, prevailing 6-2, 6-3 against Hazel Briggs and Eileen Probyn-Skinner who responded well in their second match, beating Latham and Billinge 6-4, 6-4 to seal the win.




The Men’s Aegon B team kicked off their Division Three campaign with a strong clash against Hallow A.

Nick King, John Moran and Dave Lamb gave their all but lost their singles matches in two sets.


Eric Cartelet came the closest to grabbing a singles win but he lost in the third set championship tiebreak.

The doubles matches did prove to be more successful for Droitwich, as Moran and Lamb got a deserved 6-3, 6-4 victory in their doubles match, however Cartelet and King were very unlucky to lose theirs 7-5, 1-6, 0-1.

Elsewhere, the Men’s Aegon C team travelled all the way to Hereford but it ended in disappointment.

Robin Jones, Ben Steel and Ian Ross all lost their singles matches in straight sets whereas Sam Reavey managed to take his to a third set championship tiebreak decider, only to lose 10-5 in the tiebreak.

In the doubles Jones and Steel battled hard but ended up losing 3-6, 4-6 while Ross and Reavey lost their doubles match 1-6, 1-6 as Hereford claimed the dominant victory.
