Droitwich looking to bounce back against Rostance

DROITWICH SPA face another crunch clash this weekend as they welcome league leaders Rostance Edwards to the King George Playing Fields in a potential title decider.

The Saltmen go into the fixture on the back of a 2-1 defeat to fellow Midland League Division Two title rivals Chelmsley Town, a result which saw Spa drop to third.

Two goals in the space of a minute from Mitchell Thompson and Kieron Fitzgerald brought an end to the Saltmen’s impressive 21-game unbeaten run.

Spa’s leading scorer James Lemon netted a late consolation with a brilliant volley from the edge of the area.

And with another huge clash this weekend, Spa’s joint-manager Wayne Oliver wants to see a reaction.

“All good sides have the ability to bounce back,” he said.

“We got what we deserved at the weekend, Chelmsley bossed the game from start to finish.

“It’s another important weekend of football and its a must win for us.

“There’s alot of football left to go but if we don’t win the game against Rostance, we are making it hard for ourselves.

“The players were dejected in their own performance at the weekend.

“But it’s down to them to put it right and I am confident they can do exactly that.”

Going into the big game, Oliver is a little concerned that Lemon is the only player bagging the goals in recent weeks.

Over the last three games, Lemon has netted all seven of his club’s goals, a stat that is frustrating Oliver.

“He has been our only target man as of late,” he added.

“Before this run, we had four or five players getting on the scoresheet but now, Lemon is the only one finding the back of the net so its a little concerning.”

Spa’s game against Rostance is going to be broadcasted by Big Centre TV with highlights to be shown next Thursday (March 17) at 8.30pm on channel eight (Freeview) and channel 159 (Virgin).

Along with the TV coverage, Spa are to be featured in Sunday’s (March 13) Non-League Paper including an interview with joint-manager Mark Owen.

With so much publicity surrounding the Saltmen, Oliver is pleased to see his side in the spotlight.

“It’s a strange feeling as 18 months ago, nobody was talking about us,” he added.

“Now, we’ve got the TV cameras down here and we’re going to be in the Non-League Paper, it’s a massive turnaround.

“I’d strongly urge anybody who has nothing to do this weekend to come down and watch what will be an entertaining game of football.”
