DROITWICH Men’s B got their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division Four East campaign off to a super start with victory over Stourport A.
Joe Maidment and Oliver Shier grabbed two well deserved wins – 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-0 respectively – while John Moran, making his B team debut, partnered Ian Bowman and won a gruelling battle 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 before losing the second match 4-6, 4-6.
After gaining promotion Division Seven East, the Ladies C lost their opening Division Six East game to Wall Heath B.
Jackie Passey and Suzy Levay gave their all but were unfortunately beaten in straight sets in both of their matches.
Eileen Baker and Karen Dobson lost a tight match 6-3, 6-3 before losing their second in a momentum-shifting game 0-6, 6-2, 4-6.
The Ladies G slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Far Forest in Division 11 East.
Despite the best efforts of Kate Bates and Judy Robins, they lost both of their matches against strong opposition.
Meanwhile, Marta Ivancova and Alexa Dean showed fighting spirit to win one of their two matches to keep the scoreline respectable.
The Men’s F were also defeated in their opening match of the winter season as they slumped to a 4-0 loss at Worcester H in Division 12 East.
John Jenkins and Chris Day tried their best but the opposition were too strong on the day as they lost both matches in straight sets.
Roger Satterthwaite and Mark Woodget also succumbed to the strong opponents as they also lost both of their games in straight sets.
Finally, there was also bad news for the Ladies B as they narrowly lost 3-1 at rivals Bromsgrove C in Division Four East.
Heather Fellows and Lydia Walker-Cox lost their first match 6-2, 6-1 but responded well with a better performance in their second match but were unlucky to lose 5-7, 6-4, 0-6.
Margaret Hughes and Caroline Brookes lost a tight match 1-6, 6-4, 2-6 before a fine display saw them win their second 6-3, 7-5.
