DROITWICH Men’s B secured promotion from Division Five East of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Summer League with an excellent 4-0 victory against Belbroughton B.

Scott Howell and Joe Maidment won their first match 6-3, 6-4 before a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6, 6-1 win in their second.

Bob Smith and Mark Pearsall played superbly to come from a set down to prevail 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in their first match before a fine 6-2, 6-3 victory in their second.

Nick King and Eric Cartelet also won both of their matches 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 7-6 respectively.

Congratulations also go to Oliver Shier, Adam Hair, Robin Poyser, Robin Jones, Carlos Segura, John Moran, Rich Clive and Dave Lamb who also played a part over the course of the season for the B team.

The Men’s C team bolstered their chances of avoiding relegation from Division Four East despite suffering a losing draw to Hallow A.

Stand in captain Neil Bates and partner Ben Steel picked up a much-needed 7-6, 6-1 victory in their first match before losing against a powerful Hallow pair in the second.

Despite the best efforts of the experienced duo of John Wright and Richard Skinner, they lost both of their matches in straight sets.

Clive and Moran were the stars of the show however as they battled hard to win their first match in three sets before a comfortable straight sets victory in their second.

There was joy for the Men’s D team as they played some exquisite tennis to walk away with a 6-0 victory against Bewdley F in Division Eight East.

Ian Ross and James Stanford were involved in the toughest match of the evening but came through 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 before claiming a more comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win in their second.

Ricky Hollander and Peter Fawcus battled hard against a tricky pair in the first match to win 6-3, 6-4 before a routine 6-0, 6-4 victory in the second.

Tom Trow and James McKelvey combined brilliantly to pick up 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-3 wins respectively.

Elsewhere, the Mixed B side ended their Division Three East season with a superb 3-1 victory away at rivals Bromsgrove B.

Heidi Harris and Steel started off with a 6-1, 6-4 victory before losing a tight battle 5-7, 6-3, 4-6.

Kate Hughes and Ben Buckley were the dominant force for Droitwich as they won both of their matches 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively.

The result sees Droitwich top the table but can still be caught by Belbroughton A.
