DROITWICH Men’s B suffered an agonising losing draw away to Hallow B in Division Five East of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire League.
Eric Cartelet and Nick King lost their first match before winning their second. Oliver Shear and Mark Pearsall also had similar results while Robin Jones and Joe Maidment won their first match before losing the second.
Despite all three pairs losing and winning a match, the extra set won by Hallow consigned Droitwich to their second defeat of the season.
The Men’s D team lost 5-1 away to David Lloyd Worcester C in Division Eight East.
In the drizzly conditions, Ian Ross and John Jenkins battled to the bitter end in both of their matches but unfortunately lost them both.
Despite the best efforts of Mark Walker and Chris Day, they also lost both their matches. Ricky Hollander and Chris Passey combined impressively in both of their matches, losing the first before winnng the consolation with their second.
Elsewhere, Droitwich’s very own nine-year-old James Stanford represented Hereford and Worcester under-10 Boys in Sunderland at the weekend and was promoted to their number one player.
Against three of the strongest players from other counties, Stanford won one match and lost the other two but his and those of the other boys helped Hereford and Worcester secure an eighth place finish in their first ever finals appearance.
