DROITWICH Men’s C confirmed their safety in Division Four East of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Summer League with an excellent 6-0 victory at basement club Manor Park D.
In what has been a tough season in a division which features the A teams of Hallow, Pershore and David Lloyd Worcester, the C team have defied the odds by achieving survival.
And after the Men’s B team earned promotion from Division Five East this season, Droitwich can look forward to having to teams in the same division next year.
Neil Bates, Ben Steel, John Moran, Rich Clive, Dave Lamb, Dave Wicks, Robin Jones, Richard Skinner, Carlos Segura, Oli Wall and John Wright played their part in keeping the C team up for another year.
The Ladies B team claimed victory in their final Division Four East fixture after defeating Stourbridge E 4-2.
Sue Webber and Heather Fellows unluckily lost both of their matches in three sets. 7-6, 4-6, 5-7 in the first and 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 in the second.
Suzy Levay and Caroline Brookes battled to a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 victory in their first game before a solid 6-3, 6-3 win in their second.
The faultless pairing of Linda Price and Lydia Walker-Cox were in excellent form, winning their matches 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-4 respectively.
Elsewhere, the Men’s E team ended their summer campaign with a losing draw at home to Bromsgrove F in Division Nine East.
Martin Adams and Ricky Bradley lost their first match against a strong young pair 6-2, 6-1 before responding with a 6-2, 6-1 win of their own in the next game.
John Jenkins and Kevin Pollard came through in a tight first match in three sets but went down in straight seconds in their second.
Meanwhile, Jack Gilpin and Steve Whittaker lost their first game 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 before a fine 7-6, 6-3 win in the second.
