Droitwich Men's C maintain 100 per cent start

DROITWICH Men’s C continued their 100 per cent winning start in Division Four of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire League with a 4-2 victory over Worcester D.

John Wright and John Moran produced a dominant performance in their first match to win in two sets.

The second set saw the young Worcester pairing winning in straight sets before Ben Steel and Neil Bates also lost to the youngsters in a close three set battle.

However, Steel and Bates won their second game 6-0, 6-3.




The Ladies F team played against Bewdley in Division Eight but despite some fine tennis, they came away with a losing draw.

Druscilla Lambert and Christine Reynolds unfortunately lost their first match in a tight three-set game before a superb 6-1, 6-1 win in their second.


Helen Bibbey and Kate Bates produced an excellent performance to win their first match in straight sets before losing their second game,

Christine Brighton and Lindsay Southall came from a set down to win their first match before a straight set defeat in their second meant Droitwich lost by the narrowest of margins.

A local derby between Ladies A and Bromsgrove A also saw Droitwich come out with a losing draw.

Penny Maidment and Lisa Pettener-Jones lost both matches in straight sets as they faced two strong pairs.

Sophie Sallows and Marelize Yorke were defeated in their first match 3-6, 1-6 before a superb comeback saw the pair win the second game 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Despite two excellent 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-3 wins from Kate Hughes and Heidi Harris, it was not enough to avoid defeat as Bromsgrove claimed victory on sets won.

Droitwich Ladies B climbed to the summit of Division Four with a 5-1 victory over Manor Park C.

Sue Webber and Heather Fellows were involved in two long battles, winning the first 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and losing the second 6-1, 3-6, 4-6.

Linda Price and Lydia Walker-Cox also needed three sets to win their first match 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 before a more comfortable 6-0, 6-4 win in their second.

Caroline Brookes and Suzy Levay stole the show with some scintillating tennis with two straight set wins of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-4.

Droitwich Men’s AEGON A team lost 4-2 against Manor Park in Division Two of the AEGON Herefordshire & Worcestershire League.

James Nam was the only player to win his singles match as Oliver Shier, Ian Bowman and Jon Sarriegui unluckily lost in their close matches.

Bowman and Sarriegui lost their doubles match with a third set championship tie break ending 13-11.

Nam and Shier won their doubles match but it was only a consolation.

There was better luck for the Men’s AEGON B team against Redditch B in Division Three.

Despite the best efforts of Eric Cartelet, he lost his singles match but there was wins for Neil Bates, Dave Lamb and Ricky Hollander.

Bates and Cartelet won their doubles match with some brilliant shots, as did Hollander and Lamb to seal a fine win.
