Droitwich Men's F secure Division 12 East status with winning draw

THE DROITWICH Men’s F team have secured their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division 12 East status for another year following their winning draw against Wollaston D.

Battling the tricky opponents and strong gusts of wind, Jack Gilpin and Phil Woodhouse produced a solid performance to win their first match 6-3, 6-4 before a 2-6, 3-6 defeat in their second.

Martin Adams and John Jenkins lost their first match 3-6, 3-6 but turned it around excellently with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in their second.

With the match tied at two wins apiece, it was Droitwich who got the winning draw by 35 games to 34.

The Mixed A team suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Worcester B which leaves them fourth in Division One.

Joe Maidment and Dee Smith came from a set down to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 in their first match before losing their second in two tight sets 5-7, 5-7.

Lisa Pettener-Jones and James Nam put in two spirited displays in their matches but lost them both 3-6, 2-6 and 1-6, 3-6 respectively.

The Ladies C team remain in a precarious position at the foot of the Division Six East table following a 3-1 home defeat to Halesowen B.

Jackie Passey and Karen Hay lost their first match in a tight encounter 6-7, 6-3, 4-6 before a solid 6-2, 6-4 victory in their second.

Despite the best efforts of Anne Everard and Aileen Baker, they lost both of their matches in straight sets.

Elsewhere, the Ladies B team lost 3-1 away to Stourbridge C in Division Four East.

Sue Webber and Heather Fellows gave their all but lost both of their matches in straight sets.

Caroline Brookes and Margaret Hughes responded brilliantly after losing their first match 0-6, 1-6 by picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win in their second.
