Droitwich Men's G extend lead at top with fine 4-0 victory

DROITWICH Men’s G extended their lead at the top of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division 12 East with a breathtaking 4-0 victory over Moreton-in-Marsh.

Jonathan Carter and Dan Ballard brushed their opponents aside to win 6-0, 6-1 in their first match and 6-0, 6-2 in their second.

Richard Skinner and Nigel Hughes were equally as impressive in their 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 respective victories to extend G’s lead at the top.

The Men’s D team moved to the summit of Division Seven East with victory over Shrophsire-based Alveley in their penultimate game of the season.




In chilly conditions Dave Wicks and Ian Ross lost their first match 1-6, 7-6, 3-6 but managed to claim a solid 6-3, 6-1 victory in their second match.

Dave Lamb and Peter Fawcus were in red hot form and secured two impressive 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 victories.


The Mixed F team picked up a losing draw away to Far Forest in Division Eight East.

Alexa Dean and Tony Barnby lost 0-6, 1-6 in their first match but did grab a deserved 6-2, 6-1 win in their second.

Helen Whiteside and Paul Webber played some fine shots en route to a 7-5, 6-2 victory in their first match before a 1-6, 4-6 loss in their second match.

This meant Far Forest got the winning draw by just three games.

In a top of the table clash in Division Four East, second placed Men’s B suffered a 3-1 defeat to tabletoppers Worcester C.

Ian Bowman and Joe Maidment came close in a very tight match but unfortunately lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 before responding with a 6-4, 7-5 win in their second match.

Rich Clive and John Moran gave their all but lost both of their matches by the same scoreline of 3-6, 4-6 as Worcester ran away easy winners.

The Men’s A team travelled to Manor Park A and lost 4-0 in Division One.

James Nam and Mark Jones were involved in two high quality matches but sadly lost them both 2-6, 4-6 and 2-6, 2-6.

Lee Cowan and Matt Baker came close in their first match but were beaten 6-3, 6-7, 6-7 in a close encounter before a 5-7, 4-6 loss in their second match.

This result leaves Droitwich in mid-table.

Elsewhere, the Ladies B team remain fourth in Division Four East following a 3-1 home defeat to third placed Old Hill A.

Heather Fellows and Lydia Walker-Cox lost an up and down match 1-6, 6-4, 0-6 before a 1-6, 2-6 defeat in their second.

Margaret Hughes and Caroline Brookes lost their first match 4-6, 7-5, 2-6 before managing to pick up the consolation with a fine 6-3, 6-3 win in their second.
