Droitwich Mixed B beaten by rivals Worcester C

DROITWICH Mixed B tasted derby defeat as they lost to Worcester C in Division Two of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League.

Captain Caroline Brookes and Robin Jones gave their all but lost both their matches in straight sets.

Penny Maidment and Ben Steel managed to win their first game 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 before taking the spoils in a topsy-turvy second match which ended 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Despite the win, it was not enough as Worcester came away with the winning draw.




In Division Eight East the Mixed E team were beaten 3-1 at Halesowen B.

Paul Webber and Diane Owen lost both of their games 4-6, 2-6 and 4-6, 3-6 respectively while Ian Ross and Jack Holliday won their first 6-4, 6-3 before losing the second 3-6, 5-7.


It was a bad day for the Ladies A team in Division One as they lost 4-0 to local rivals Bromsgrove A.

Both pairings of Maidment and Heather Fellows and Lisa Pettener-Jones and Marelize Yorke lost their matches in straight sets.

There was better news for the Ladies G team though, as they beat David Lloyd Worcester D 3-1 in Division 11 East.

Julia Brown and Judy Robins battled to a fine 7-5, 6-1 victory in their first match but lost the second 3-6, 3-6.

Melanie Cook and Alexa Dean produced some brutal shots as they won their games 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively.

The Men’s G claimed a winning draw against Cutnall Green D in Division 12 East to maintain their promotion push.

Nigel Hughes and Richard Probyn-Skinner lost their first game 2-6, 1-6 but responded well to win their second 6-0, 6-4.

Steve Good and Jonathan Carter claimed a deserved 6-3, 6-1 win before losing their next game 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 but the result was enough to claim the winning draw.

Elsewhere, the Men’s C also secured a winning draw at David Lloyd Bromsgrove C in Division Five East.

Nick King and Eric Cartelet lost an entertaining match 7-6, 4-6, 6-7 but hit back with a solid 6-3 7-5 victory in their second.

Steel and Bob Smith then produced a fine display to win 6-2, 7-5 in their first match but lost their second 4-6 6-7.
