DROITWICH’S hopes of finishing second in Division One of the Worcestershire County League suffered a set back as they were defeated by 142 runs at rivals Worcester Nomads on Saturday.
Having won eight of their last ten matches, Marytn Davies’ men would have arrived in Worcester in good spirits and they made a decent start.
Three early wickets from Phillip Thomas gave Droitwich a chance before Jake Young (4-1-28) and Davies (2-2-42) finished off the tail.
Richard Henry (31), Innocent Kaia, (30) and Sam Roberts (29) were the top scorers for Worcester, but with 207 to chase off their alloted 50 overs, Spa would have been confident of clinching another win.
However, they got off to a poor start and never recovered. Jake Young, Connor Grant and David Lane were all quickly dismissed before Worcester piled on the misery.
Only Max Young (14) and Davies (12) could make double figures as Droitwich were skittled out for a miserly 64.
Droitwich’s Bank Holiday Monday match against Pershore was abandoned following torrential conditions.
