SARAH MAJOR hailed Droitwich Spa Belles’ “fantastic” link-up play despite slumping to a 6-3 defeat to Cookley Sports Ladies in the opening round of the Bill Allsop Memorial Trophy.
An excellent first half performance saw the Belles – Droitwich Spa’s second team – go in at the break level at 2-2 thanks to goals from Abi Lewis and Charlotte Wallis.
However, the quality of the opposition shone through in the second half as they cruised to victory despite Charlotte Holden adding a third for Spa.
Major said: “The girls showed some fantastic link up play to develop for the future. The desire and commitment the girls showed for the game and each other shone through throughout the match.
“We will gather our thoughts brush ourselves off and go again next week.”
The Belles begin their Midwest Counties League Division One campaign on Sunday against Welland.
