DROITWICH Spa will contest the County Finals on Sunday evening at Worcester’s Royal Grammar School after winning the WCBL Indoor Central Division.
In last weekend’s title decider against Cutnall Green, Spa cruised to a six-wicket win with more than eight overs to spare.
The two sides face off again this Sunday in a semi-final clash, with the winners taking on Hagley or Stanway in the County Finals showpiece.
Green were dismissed for 44 runs last weekend, which looked a precarious total to defend, especially with an injury to a fielder leaving them a man short.
Droitwich duly got home in just over 3.2 overs with Martyn Davies (22) and Jez Hanson (19) ensuring victory was sealed.
Three of Spa’s four senior teams take to the field for the first time this weekend.
The first team take on Colwall in a friendly on Saturday, with the second team making the opposite trip, whilst the third string taking on Old Elizabethans at St Peters Fields on Sunday.
First-team skipper Max Young challenged the younger players in the side to tackle the restructed Worcestershire County League Division One head on.
“We need to compete as well as we did in the second half of last season and aim for a top-half finish,” he said.
“Both Matt (Gurr) and Adam (Keen) showed the skill level and attitude to perform well at first-team level and playing against better opposition should help them to develop their game further.”
Spa’s second side will be gearing up for Division Five, while the 3rds will be in Division Nine under new captain Tom Gregory’s stewardship.
The 4ths will draw upon youth and experience in their ranks in Division 11, and the inaugural women’s team will play on Monday evenings.
