Craig Gibbons 17th Oct, 2018

DROITWICH Spa Men’s Firsts cemented top spot in the league with a 3-2 victory over Bromsgrove Seconds in what was their third win on the spin.

Midlands T3 South West One leaders Spa raced into a 3-0 lead, thanks to goals from Andrew Rollason, David Hindle and Dan Mazureak.

Harry Meade and Mark Gormley set up a tense finale but Spa held on to add to their wins against Barford Tigers and Spa Seconds.

The Seconds’ game against Solihull Blossomfield ended in a 4-1 defeat, with Barry Williams scoring a second half consolation.

Spa’s third string showed resilience to come from 3-0 down after 20 minutes to draw their South West Four game with Old Halesonians Fifths 4-4.

Fernando Prendiville gave Spa hope in the first half as his strike reduced the arrears before a stirring second half comeback, led by youngster John Phillips, who scored his first goals in a senior side.

His first was a reverse stick effort in the circle before a low strike whistled into the Old Halesonians goals to draw the game level.

Old Halesonians edged ahead once more, this time from penalty corner before another youngster in Arthur Carter drew Droitwich level for a second time.

This added to a the previous week’s comprehensive 5-2 win over Bournville Fourths, with Nick Bates, Paul Woodward and an Arthur Carter hat-trick securing their first win.

The Ladies Firsts continued their good form in Worcestershire Division Two with a 6-1 win over Harborne to cement top spot.

Droitwich started the game quickly with Abigail Latham scoring early before Lucy Hine scored two goals with a penalty Corner strike in between.

After the break Latham and Hine scored a goal each to extend Spa’s lead.

Meanwhile, the Ladies Seconds were edged out 1-0 by Kings Heath Pickwick.
