Droitwich Spa to ground-share with Bromyard Town

DROITWICH SPA Football Club have announced they will be ground-sharing with Bromyard Town from next season should the Saltmen secure promotion at the end of the 2015/16 season.

A deal was reached on Thursday night which will see the Saltmen share Delahay Meadow, the home of West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division side Bromyard, if they can secure promotion from Division Two of the Midland League.

With the King George Playing Fields not meeting the necessary grading for Step Six of non-league football, the Grade G grading at Bromyard makes their ground the perfect home for the Saltmen while improvements to their own ground are being made.

Spa chairman Peter Lemon said: “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Bromyard Town.

“The facilities at Delahay Meadow are excellent and will allow the club to build on the success it has achieved over the last 18 months.

“However, I stress we are not taking football away from the Droitwich area, this is solely a temporary measure while the King George Playing Fields are improved.

“The club is very grateful of the support we have received from Bromyard which has given us the chance for the club to progress to the next level.”

If Spa don’t secure promotion at the end of the season, there are hopes to introduce a development team for the 2016/17 season who would play their football at King George, with the first team still moving to Bromyard.

In another boost for the club, the agreement sees Spa entering the FA Vase for the first time in their history and regardless of promotion, the Saltmen will partake in the competition should the FA accept their registration in June.

Spa will also find out at the end of the season if the FA approve their ground-share with Bromyard for next season.

Lemon added: “It’s a big step forward for us and to be able to play in the FA Vase is a real testament to the work we have put in over the last 18 months.

“For the lads to be able to play against sides two or three steps above us in the ladder is a big opportunity for us.”
