Droitwich Spa Ladies Firsts and Seconds enjoy pre-season success

Droitwich Editorial 20th Sep, 2017   0

DROITWICH Spa Ladies Firsts started their pre-season schedule with a 4-2 home victory over Worcester Thirds.

The hosts started very quickly against a youthful Worcester side with Abigail Latham scoring an excellent deflected goal after Lorna Davidson’s fierce shot hit the back stick.

Droitwich’s second came courtesy of a swift break with Georgie Lott grabbing the goal.

Spa continued to apply the pressure with Lucy Hine opening up the Worcester defence but she could not apply the finish before she whistled a penalty corner wide of the post.

However, Hine would not be denied as she converted a second penalty corner to make it 3-0.

After the break a rejuvenated Worcester reduced their arrears before adding a second to set up a tense finale.

But Hine grabbed her second of the day from another penalty corner to ensure it was Droitwich who went home happy with a 4-2 victory.

The Ladies Seconds also enjoyed pre-season success as they thumped Redditch Ladies 6-1.

Redditch, which has not been a happy hunting ground for Spa in recent season, made the most of their early pressure to take the lead with a well-hit shot.

But after a player reshuffle among the Spa ranks, the visitors equalised when Jenny Hewlett’s firm, low strike found the back of the net.

Droitwich had further chances with Rachel Cooper hitting the post before Sam Wakelam gave Spa a 2-1 lead going into the break.

Following the interval Spa’s experience began to pay dividends as Georgie Gibbs scored four unanswered goals to close out a 6-1 win for the away side.
