Droitwich Spa Ladies maintain 100 per cent record

DROITWICH Spa Ladies extended their lead at the top of the West Midlands Regional League Division One (South) table with a 6-0 victory over Kenilworth Ladies.

Spa went into the game off the back of a 9-0 victory over Coleshill Town Women and yet to concede a goal – and a fantastic second half display ensured they kept that defensive record in tact.

Ian Fry’s side controlled the game throughout but found it difficult to make a breakthrough as Ellie Gerhold missed a gilt edged chance before April Polden saw her penalty kick saved by Kenilworth keeper Dion Germaine.

Spa finally opened their account four minutes before the break when Gerhold smashed home after breaking into the box.

The second half saw Spa continue to dominate and only several fantastic saves from Germaine kept the score at 1-0.

Spa’s movement of the ball was excellent and they continue to dominate the proceedings, creating several chances.

And they finally secured the points with three goals in the space of four minutes.

Gerhold completed her hat-trick, her seventh goal in two matches, before turning provider for Jenna Dedicoat who stabbed home from close range to make it 4-0 after 69 minutes.

With ten minutes to go Melissa Curnock added the fifth, firing the ball home from the edge of the area before Naomi Widdows completed Spa’s scoring after tapping into the net after her initial shot rebounded off the crossbar.

Fry said: “This was a great performance, particularly in the second half. We experimented with a slightly different shape in the first half, which didn’t really work.

“The change we made at half time seemed to do the trick and the football we played after the break was very satisfying and a real pleasure to watch.

“Sixteen goals and three clean sheets says everything about the quality we have all over the pitch.”

Droitwich will be looking to continue their fantastic start to the season on Sunday (October 2) when they entertain Stourbridge.
