DROITWICH Spa Ladies Seconds suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bournville in their latest pre-season game.
Despite the scoreline, the friendly showed how the team are developing as a number of new players are bedding into the side.
The first half saw Spa fall two goals behind but keeper Naomi Mountford kept the home side in the tie with some good saves.
After the the break, Spa fought hard to reduce the arrears but fell to a sucker-punch in the dying moments of the game.
Emily Harrell was named player of the match.
The Men’s Firsts ended their pre-season programme with a 2-2 draw at Pershore Firsts.
Spa were looking to gain valuable experience in their final friendly as they handed debuts to Nathan Shalom, Ollie Oxley and David Purchase.
The visitors started brightly and began to create several chances early on as Lee Wakelam went close.
At the other end Pershore were not able to find the touch or composure to unlock Spa’s defence.
The game then sparked to life after 13 minutes as Prchase put Spa ahead with a shot across the keeper.
Pershore then responded with two goals in the space of six minutes to take the lead.
Following the interval, Marcus Claytor and Wakelam began to open up the home side’s defence with pace which eventually bared fruit.
Claytor burst down the right and managed to get a cross in which ricocheted around the circle before Ashley Davies dispatched the ball home to level the scores.
Spa travel to Redditch on Saturday (October 1) for their opening Midlands Regional League West Midlands One clash.
There was disappointment for the Men’s Seconds as they suffered a 6-1 defeat at Market Drayton with a much-changed side.
Zak Allsop scored for a Spa side which featured senior debutant Matthew Whiteside who made a series of excellent saves.
Spa take on Redditch at home in the MRL Seconds West Midlands Two on Saturday.
