DROITWICH Spa Men’s Firsts were left disappointed after they suffered an 8-1 defeat to Ludlow Firsts in a pre-season friendly.
Despite giving a number of players their senior debut, Spa were first to settle as Ludlow struggle to fond the range for the passing but the hosts were not able to force home their advantage.
The remainder of the half was very stop start with the game being broken up by niggle fouls along with a stoppage in play due to an injury to Alexei Payne who suffered a cut to the head.
Ludlow then showed their ruthless side and two quick breakaways put them ahead after 17 minutes, with a third added after 25 minutes.
Spa were not able to break the deadlock for the remainder of the first half.
After the turnaround Spa reduced the areas with a strike but Ludlow responded with another two goals leaving the score 5-1.
Ludlow kept attacking and before the end of the half they added three further goals to complete the scoring.
Meanwhile, the Men’s Seconds lost 2-0 to Leominster.
Droitwich were composed in the opening exchanges, playing the ball around the back and using the width to create the chances with Joe Neal providing an early opportunity with a pull back but Leomintser scrambled to clear.
Leominster were reliant on sitting deep and pouncing on the counter which was how they opened the scoring.
After half time, Steve Far and Paul Woodward controlled the midfield and could not put the finishing touches to penalty corner or the good approach play.
Leominster then converted a penalty corner to secure the win.
