TEENAGE Droitwich Spa swimmer Matt Richards snapped up five gold medals and a silver at the ASA British Summer Championships over the weekend.

The 14-year-old qualified for 11 individual events in Sheffield but he was only entered into five for the tournament which ran from Thursday to Sunday.

Richards, who faced stiff competition in the 15-year-old category, won golds in all five as well as smashing three Welsh records along the way, including one which has stood since 1988.

He is registered as a Welsh athlete through his father and grandfather even though he was born at Worcester Royal and has lived in Droitwich for all his life.

Richards also broke several regional and county records along the way.

He was also part of the Droitwich Spa High School 4x200m freestyle relay team which came second in their final at the championships.
