Droitwich Spa thrown out of Worcestershire Saturday Cup for fielding suspended player

DROITWICH Spa FC have released a statement announcing that the club has been thrown out of the WFA Worcestershire Saturday Cup.

Spa fielded a suspended player in their 5-0 win against Worcester City Reserves and have been removed from the competition with immediate effect.

That comes despite the suspension being indirectly associated to the club after the player received the ban whilst playing for another team.

And as a result, Fairfield Villa have been granted an away walkover for the semi-final tie.

The statement reads: “The Emergency Sub-Committee of WFA Football Services Committee has determined that Droitwich Spa F.C played a player in the last round of the WFA County Cup whilst the player was serving a suspension.

“Therefore, Droitwich Spa are removed from the Competition with immediate effect and Fairfield Villa will proceed into the next round.

“The Committee noted that the suspension was indirectly associated to Droitwich Spa (by virtue of the player obtaining the suspension while playing for another team), as well as the written statement provided by the Club regarding the alleged shortcomings of the IT platforms not showing the suspension.

“Based on these mitigating factors, no further penalty will be applied to Droitwich Spa FC by the Football Services Committee.”
