Droitwich Spa's season has been fantastic

WHAT a season it has been for Wayne Oliver, Mark Owen and the Saltmen.

Spa finished third in Division Two of the Midland League, their highest ever, as well as walking away with the Worcestershire Junior Cup and the Presidents Cup.

The Saltmen have enjoyed a fantastic campaign and thoroughly deserve their accolades.

It’s a shame the club have missed out on promotion but to walk away with two trophies is a fantastic achievement nevertheless.

The youthful squad gelled well under the pair of Oliver and Owen and their success this season can only continue into the next.

Spa are a talented bunch and if they’re to succeed next season, keeping hold of their key players is paramount.

Top scorer James Lemon, who bagged 44 goals this campaign, is definitely going to be on the radar of other clubs as well as marauding right back Jack Brighton and the gifted Haydn Morris.

Couple this with a few additions over pre-season and Spa will be right up there again next season.

As an added incentive for the club, they will be appearing in the FA Vase for the first time in their history should the FA accept their registration in June.

The chance to play in the Vase will be certainly something the club treasure for a long time and it presents a fantastic opportunity for the players to showcase their talent.

Things can only get better for Spa and with plans to improve the King George Playing Fields on the horizon, they could be on their way to moving up the non-league pyramid.

It has been a pleasure to report on Spa’s progress this season and hopefully there’ll be more success to write about at the end of the next campaign.

Roll on August!
