Droitwich suffer late heart-break

TWO LATE tries denied Droitwich a much-needed victory as Leamington stormed back to seal a dramatic 26-20 win on Saturday.

Having suffered two defeats on the bounce, Spa were keen to return to winning ways and got off to a good start. Despite conceding a penalty early on, the hosts got the first try of the afternoon, with Rob Poke going over in the corner.

Bobby Scott-Walker added the extras before slotted home a penalty to give side a 10-3 advantage at half-time.

But Leamington came back in the second period as they quickly cross the whitewash. Spa were not helped by their rising penalty count as the visitors took full advantage with a drop goal to edge ahead.

With ten minutes remaining, Droitwich began to attack with more conviction and soon got their rewards. Scott-Walker found Ian Conda whose sublime pass out wide was gathered by his brother, Nathan to finish. Scott-Walker was once again on target with his kick to leave Leamington trailing 20-14.

But just when it appeared Droitwich had done enough, the away side snatched it away from them. They went over twice late on to claim the victory despite the best efforts of Joey Roberts and captain James Shewell.

The results leaves Spa at the bottom of Midlands Two West (South), but they will have the chance of moving out of the drop zone if they defeat Malvern tomorrow (Saturday).
