Droitwich thrash Kenilworth to boost survival hopes

DROITWICH Spa boosted their hopes of retaining their Midland Football League Division Two status with a 6-0 thrashing of relegation rivals Kenilworth last Saturday.

James Lemon increased his goal tally this season with a hat-trick while Nick Seabourne bagged two and Macauley Finch scored the other at Gypsy Lane.

With Kenilworth struggling to stay in the division, this was seen as a must win match for Wayne Oliver and Mark Owen’s side and they did not disappoint their travelling supporters.

Oliver and Owen made three changes to the side that line-up against Chelmsley Town last week and they struggled to settle from the start in an even but uninspiring opening 20 minutes.

Chances were few and far between until the half hour when a threw ball by Besar Celjat found Seabourne to coolly slot home the opener.

This gave the visitors the belief and confidence to play some decent football and when Lemon calmly dispatched a penalty Spa were in the driving seat.

Straight after the break, Droitwich added a third through Finch which seemed to take the pressure off the away side as they began to boss proceedings.

Seabourne bagged his second of the afternoon before Lemon struck twice late on to complete his hat-trick and round off a dominant display.

However, Droitwich still remain two points above the relegation area as Feckenham and Knowle also recorded wins.
