DROITWICH Spa captain Martyn Davies is not worried by his side’s league position following their harrowing seven-wicket defeat to Stourport.
After being bowled out for 43 in their season opener against Cookley, Spa sank to even lower depths at St Peter’s Fields as Davies’ side were bowled out for just 37.
The result leaves Droitwich sitting third-from-bottom in Division One of the Worcestershire County League and they face another tough test on Saturday as they take on mid-table Worcester.
Despite their failings, Davies is confident Droitwich have the ability to climb up the table.
“Last week we showed some real improvements but on Saturday we went back to square one,” Davies told the Standard.
“The batting was not ideal and the weather did not help but we got to show more fight.
“I’m not going to criticise the batting as I open the attacking order so I have to set the example.
“It’s not a concern for me that we’re third-from-bottom as we have not played anywhere near as good as we can.
“We finished third last season so I’m confident we can push on but we just need to put some results together.”
Ahead of Droitwich’s clash at the Gordon Jones Memorial Ground, Davies will be without Ash Fearnall (work commitments) and Gary Cartwright (holiday).
