EVESHAM Bengeworth claimed the first trophy of this year’s Wychavon Parish Games after triumphing in the rounders competition.

Evesham overcame Inkberrow in the final, winning the event for the second year in a row, at Badsey Sports and Social Club.

The rounders competition, sponsored by Marshalls Transport, also saw 10 parishes take part.

Behind winners Evesham and runners-up Ikberrow, Fladbury and Sedgeberrow shared third place.

And parishes from Bretforton, Wyre Piddle, Wick, Harvington, Broadway and Eckington all took part in the event.

Next up saw the men’s five-a-side competition, sponsored by Hasti Brokers, take place at Evesham United’s Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.

The parishes split into two groups with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semi-finals.

In the last four, Bretforton beat Harvington 2-0 while Badsey beat Evesham Bengeworth by the same score to reach the final.

And Bretforton thrashed Badsey 4-0 in the final to claim the title.

Harvington and Evesham Bengeworth finished joint third with Broadway fifth and Sedgeberrow sixth while Inkberrow and Hill and Moor also took part in the event.

The next event is the cross country, sponsored by Schloetter Co Ltd, which takes place on the Evesham parkrun course on the evening of Monday, July 15.

That is followed by the bell boating, sponsored by Malcolm Limrick, on the River Avon on Saturday, July 20.
