FIVE testing friendlies have been lined up by Droitwich Spa FC bosses who have chosen some tough opponents as part of their 2020/21 season build-up, writes Callum Perry.
After going four months without playing competitive football, the Saltmen are set to make their return in an away match in Hereford against Hinton FC at 3pm on August 15.
The two teams regularly meet on the King George’s Playing Fields and it has become a tradition that both clubs are looking to continue.
Spa then takes a short trip up on August 17 to play Feckenham in their second away match at the Trico stadium – home to Redditch United.
For many years, the two clubs have locked horns in their pre-season matches, and since Spa’s move to the West Midlands Regional League, the two sides have kept alive their good relations and will meet in a friendly fixture at 7.45pm.
Last season the Millers ran out a 3-2 victory.
On the August 22, Droitwich will travel back to Hereford to play Hereford Lads Club for the first time. The opposition play in West Division one of the Uhlsport Hellenic League which is a level above the Spa’s current league.
On August 26, Spa travel to Stratford to play FC Stratford at 7.45pm, who currently reside in Division 2 of the Midland Football League. This visit will be the two club’s first meeting.
The final match of the pre-season programme reignites the flames between the Saltmen and the Swifts. On August 29 at 3pm, Droitwich Spa FC will play Stourport at Walshes Meadow.
