ANDY Crowther feels the pressure is on the teams chasing his Droitwich Spa side with the Saltmen in pursuit of the Hellenic League Division One title.
Spa saw their weekend fixture against bottom club Southam United postponed but remain four points clear at the top of the league table with 10 games left to play.
And Crowther is not feeling the pressure of leading the title race with the Saltmen seeking a first-ever promotion to Step Five.
Crowther said: “It’s been a really good season up until now, if someone said we’d be four points ahead with 10 games left you’d have taken that at this stage.
“Over the last month or so we’ve had up and down games, you expect that at some point as a team throughout the season, it’s how you react to that.
“Hopefully, we can push on, take each game as it comes and get enough points to get us over the line and finally get that promotion.
“I don’t think the pressure is with us, the management group is keeping the pressure off the players, it’s a game of football at the end of the day.
“It’s something the lads love doing, go out and enjoy it, play with a smile and hopefully the quality will come through.
“The pressure is on the teams chasing us because they can’t afford to drop points so I don’t think the pressure is on us at the moment.
“Our performances have got to improve slightly over the next few games, we’ve just got to carry on doing what we’ve been doing.”
Droitwich have lost just two league games all season and remain unbeaten on the road this campaign.
Spa play only two of their remaining 10 league matches at home with the other eight taking place away from the King George Playing Fields.
However, the Saltmen have won just one of their last four league matches, allowing the chasing pack to close the gap to Spa in the table.
And Crowther insists his side must react to their recent blip in the right way ahead of hosting Shortwood United this weekend.
Crowther added: “We’re getting to that stage of the season now where the majority of teams are fighting for either the play-offs, promotion or relegation – there’s no easy games.
“Once you play teams once, they get used to the way you play so you have to mix that up a bit as well.
“We’ve just got to go in with the right mindset, the right mentality and attitude.
“You do get a lot of people saying about complacency but I don’t think that comes into it at all.
“You need to play to a high standard as a team throughout the season, it’s difficult to keep it up, you’re always going to have a little bit of a blip and we’re reacting in the right way.
“We just need to carry on doing what we’ve been doing throughout the season, we’ve got two home games left and the rest are away. We’re still unbeaten away from home.”
Droitwich entertain Shortwood on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
