CONNOR Collins scored a hat-trick as Droitwich Spa romped to a 6-0 win away at Nuneaton Griff to secure their biggest victory of the season so far.

Collins opened the scoring from the penalty spot before heading in Spa’s third after Charlie Tilley doubled the away side’s lead at Pingles Stadium.

Further goals from James Lemon and Perry Moss extended the Saltmen’s lead before Collins completed his hat-trick to round off a fine afternoon’s work from Andy Crowther’s men.

And the result means Droitwich sit second in the Midland Football League Division One table, one point behind leaders Hinckley AFC with a game in-hand.

Spa struck twice in the opening 10 minutes and broke the deadlock after Lemon drew a foul in the box and Collins converted the resulting spot kick.

And the visitors swiftly doubled their advantage when Tilley finished at the back post, tapping home after good work from Collins.

The Saltmen all but sealed the points midway through the first half as Collins headed in his second of the game from Jack Brighton’s excellent free-kick.

That sent Droitwich into the break with a three-goal advantage against an in-form Nuneaton side who had lost just once at home all season.

Spa picked up where they left off after the break as Lemon produced a delightful chip over Nuneaton goalkeeper Dale O’Donnell on 52 minutes to end the game as a contest.

The visitors made it five when Tilley dispossessed Nuneaton keeper O’Donnell before selflessly squaring the ball to Moss who applied the finish.

And Collins completed the scoring and his hat-trick on 78 minutes with a low effort into the corner after latching on to Ollie Thompson’s through ball.

Substitute Danny Barnes hit the bar soon after while Spa boss Crowther handed a debut to youngster Woody Hawkett from the bench.

Droitwich are next in action at home to Heather St. John’s on Saturday, October 14 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
